Alternate Universe

The Alternate Universe (AU) has a place on this website, but it hasn’t been easy figuring out how to present it with my Real Life (RL) world. This page will lead to entries related to the AU, from the site Alternate Universe – AU Blog.

The AU is difficult to describe to those who haven’t read Magical Shrinking. If you haven’t read the book, the AU pages will likely make little
sense as they are a part of myself that is not “real.” It exists only in my head.

The AU about page will be the story of that part of myself, much like the about page for the RL me.

I do not have dissociative identity disorder (AKA multiple personality disorder). The AU is a coping mechanism that had some bits of dissociation when I was younger. I know who I am. I have no doubts, unlike when I was a teenager without full cognitive capability. I didn’t know who the hell I was, or how to keep my lives separate. Now I have a life within my head, which I have full control over. It’s not a problem, not a disorder.

Without reading Magical Shrinking, it is nearly impossible to explain the AU on a simple web page. This area of the site is really for people who have read the book and have an understanding of what’s happening in my head.

This must sound crazy. Rest assured, it’s not. The AU is a creative way my young brain came up with to exist in reality without breaking down. As a way to cope, it was, and is, incredibly successful.
